Antonin Baudry's "THE WOLF'S CALL" (Le Chant du loup)

Movie review by Dennis D. McDonald

I’m a sucker for books and movies about submarines and I’m happy to add this fanciful tale to the list.

The story: a young French submariner with sensitive hearing finds himself, after several false starts, thrust into a pivotal role in preventing a rogue nuclear missile attack. Along the way we get an exciting tour of modern sea-going military technology both realistic and fanciful.

It’s all crisply directed, well edited, and beautifully photographed. It’s hard not to believe scenes were not photographed on real submarines the sets are so convincing looking.

While The Wolf’s Call is no Das Boot or a Run Silent Run Deep, it’s a lot of fun as we watch the French navy parade its wares. Recommended!

Two nuclear submarines docking port at the same time? Hmmm…
