Timur Bekmambetov's WANTED
Movie Review by Dennis D.McDonald
Talk about no redeeming social value! But it’s great fun. I’ve enjoyed James McAvoy ever since his stellar performance in Children of Dune, and I never tire of Angelina Jolie. The presence of Morgan Freeman and Terence Stamp doesn’t hurt, either.
But the star is the action, which is almost non-stop. Plus, plot twists come along at just the right time to keep things moving despite a storyline which is a mix of pulp adventure story, mystic ancient cabalistic killers, Hollywood action stereotypes, and plain silliness. And even though we’ve come to accept the impossible based on clever CGI, I have to admit the train scenes are just about mindboggling. And did I mention the rats?
Grab a beer and some popcorn, park yourself in front of the TV, and crank up the sound.
