Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud's PERSEPOLIS

A movie review by Dennis D. McDonald

This animated tale about a young girl growing up in Iran during and after the Revolution as personal freedoms are inexorably removed is simultaneously touching and difficult to watch.

Drawn mostly in black and white, the film works on an emotional level that emphasizes relationships and freedom in ways that seem unthinkable for those who take such freedoms for granted.
