Éric Besnard's "DELICIOUS"

Review by Dennis D. McDonald

Delicious is a “food movie” of the highest order. From the perspective of pre-revolutionary rural France in 1789 it checks off these list items:

  • Little guy against the power structure

  • The struggles of entrepreneurship

  • Gorgeous and luscious food and nature photography

  • A gradually and painfully blooming love affair

  • Plot twists, surprises, and disasters along the way

My wife’s only complaint: sometimes the characters speak so fast (in French) that the English subtitles have a hard time keeping up. My only complaint: I couldn’t help but wonder about the personal hygiene of everyone involved.

But these are minor quibbles. Delicious is a fun, unabashedly feel-good, and beautiful trip back in time. If you like movies like Chef,  Haute Cuisine, or Ratatouille, you’ll probably enjoy Delicious.
