Every time I read something like Ancient creature was a grizzly-size millipede-centipede hybrid, fossil head reveals (see image of fossil at top of this page from the October 9, 2024 issue of Science) several things run through my head such as:

• I would really like to see an 8 foot creature like this live and up close — but preferably in a zoo!

• Had aliens visited the earth when creatures like this lived, what would they have thought when they saw something like this crawling around?

• Imagine seeing something like this crawling up from the surf while you are sunbathing on the beach.

• There are advantages and disadvantages to having only 2 arms and 2 legs. Some AI tools, however, are able to consider the possibilty of our having three hands.

When all is said and done, the variety of life that has existed on Earth—even in the distant past—is simply amazing.

As a “glass half full guy” this encourages me to believe that there are creatures now living on other planets in the universe which may be making the same observations and asking the same questions.
