Barry Lopez' "HORIZON" An amazingly thoughtful and philosophical rumination about the relationship between humans and our environment.
Imogen & Isabel Greenberg’s “ATHENA GODDESS OF WISDOM AND WAR" My granddaughter was so impressed with this I bought her a statue of Athena.
James Blish's "A CASE OF CONSCIENCE" A thoughtful and relevant classic science fiction novel about colonialism, cultural exploitation, and religion (the main character is a Jesuit).
Molly Knox Ostertag's "THE GIRL FROM THE SEA" An original and touching illustrated tale of a human girl who falls in love with a selkie.
Neil Gaiman's "THE GRAVEYARD BOOK" A child grows up in a graveyard, watched over by spirits of the dead. Gaiman at the height of his powers.
David Lynch & Kristine McKenna‘s "ROOM TO DREAM" Love him or hate him, this book is an insightful portrait of how David Lynch, artist and film & TV director, values and manages his creativity.
James McBride's "DEACON KING KONG" A spectacularly creative and engaging integration of multiple themes including mystery, poverty, racism, life on the streets, old school religion, loyalty, gardening, anthropology … the list goes on.
Tade Thompson's "ROSEWATER" A gritty and futuristic tale of a technology-dependent society told from the perspective of Nigerians trying to deal with aliens among us, mind reading, and zombies.
Rodrigo García’s “A FAREWELL TO GABO AND MERCEDES: A SON’S MEMOIR” A son’s tender, frank, and engaging tribute to his late and great parents. His father: celebrated novelist Gabriel García Marquez.
